Bali's Most Blissful Village
<Bali’s Most Blissful Village>
More discerning seekers of bliss are heading to the Bali village of Canggu, on the province’s southern coast. Here, centuries-old Hindu temples can be found amid radiant green rice fields, and Balinese locals live alongside a permanent population of European and Australian expats. Long known in Southeast Asia as a bohemian surf town, Canggu is largely free of the thumping nightclubs and rowdy antics of neighboring cities. And despite a recent flurry of new development as civilization creeps across the island, the tranquil atmosphere remains, with long stretches of uninterrupted beach and an unwritten code of conduct that frowns on flashy behavior. Indeed, while an influx of sophisticated boutiques and trendy cafes is adding a whiff of refinement, it’s not enough to harsh the super laid-back hippie mellow — accounting for both the surfers and perhaps the highest concentration of svelte yogis on the planet. Nobody likes an angry yogi.
