The Oldest U.S. Wine Region is in New Mexico
The Mesilla Valley in New Mexico, near the Texas and Mexico borders, is the United States’ oldest wine region: Spanish missionaries planted vineyards in the hot, dry landscape more than 400 years ago to make wine for Catholic mass. Now, the area produces such varieties as tempranillo and malvasia Bianca.
