At the Kunstsammlung in Zurich, I watched a thousand-year-old Chinese woman with a cane look at a Sisley for more than an hour, like maybe it was going to go somewhere if she didn’t watch it, and I learned from her a new way to look at art—hard and for a long time—and I hope I don’t forget it.
